Bread, The Way It Should Be

Our mission at Shepherdstown Sweet Shop is to make delicious, wholesome breads for you, your family and friends. We use only the finest ingredients in every loaf, unbleached and unbromated flours, whole grain flours, healthful seeds and no added preservatives.

Each loaf is shaped by hand, using high levels of water and a long ferment which results in more natural flavors, textures and improved digestibility. We think that you'll agree, our breads add enjoyment to every meal.

English Muffin Bread - Everything you love about English Muffins is waiting for you in this loaf of perfectly toast-able English Muffin Bread. It's full of nooks and crannies, making it perfect for toasting, French toast, or grilled sandwiches

Pumpernickel Bread - Dark and rich, this loaf is made with wheat flour and real pumpernickel flour- which is a lot rarer than you'd think. We think it's probably the best pumpernickel in the Eastern Panhandle of WV

Sourdough Bread - A classic light bread with just a touch of sour, perfect for your favorite sandwich or simply toasted. Warm in the oven to bring back the crusty skin or hollow out the boule and fill with your favorite soups or dips

Tomato Rosemary Bread - A medium textured bread flavored with sundried tomatoes, lightly seasoned with garlic, oregano and basil.  The perfect partner for pastas and salads, or grilled with provolone cheese

Sunflower Bread - We named it Sunflower Bread but it has 8 different seeds and flours, including sunflower and sesame seeds to add a touch of sweetness to this light textured multipurpose bread

Six Grain Bread - One of our best selling breads.  Six-grain contains wheat and rye flours, sesame seeds, flaxseeds, corn grits, barley and oats, cracked wheat and more, to make a moist bread with a coarse texture and nutty flavor, to say nothing of the health benefits.  We offer this in a 2 pound loaf or a 1 pound boule

Pumpernickel Raisin Bread - A fall favorite, our pumpernickel bread is sweetened with dark raisins, surprisingly good for sandwiches or toasted and topped with apple butter.

German Black Bread - A very dense wholegrain rye bread from the area of Northern Germany. Slice super thin for open faced sandwiches of smoked meats and cheeses.

Our breads are backed by 40 years of experience

and dedication to quality. We use whole grain flours

and no added preservatives. Because of the wide variety

of breads we make, not all are available all the time,

but most can be ordered with just a few days’ notice.
